Water Issues in Harleov County

Harold's Place and Leoville work to find solutions to common groundwater issues.

Ask anyone from the lower part of Harold’s place to Northern part of Leoville about water quality and the answers will run the gamut from gloom and doom for future and even present generations, to eye-rolling sneering remarks over such notions.

But in Harold’s Place a reverse-osmosis system is in the works to desalinate town water in anticipation of pumping from the saltier lower aquifer.

The filtration system uses a semi permeable membrane that water passes through but salt does not. Many breakthroughs have occurred in the filtration of saltwater in recent years. But implementation of the system hinges on withdrawal needs, officials at Harold’s say if the registration market cools, they won’t need to begin the desalination process as quickly.

And in Leoville, a proposed wastewater treatment center for a 4,800-lot development would precipitate condemnation of nearly 400 acres of Harold’s Place and some very noisy public opposition.

These two towns on opposite ends of the thirsty and delicate Harleov County illustrate the issues and concerns increasingly on the minds of residents, businesses and lawmakers as both towns grapple with protecting limited freshwater supplies and fragile wildlife.

Their two sources of water are at the center in a debate on how Harleov County will provide water resources in the future, how the wastewater will be treated and where it will be discharged.

Gweep celebrates birthday by sitting in ice cream

Gweeptish went missing on his birthday yesterday afternoon but later was found in the ice box trying to cool off his bottom... So many spankings would make anyone's butt sore. Happy Birthday Gweep! Here is to another sixty. For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow! Which nobody can deny, which nobody can deny!

Trance Harper

Trance is our new investigative reporter. She might be a kitten, but don't let that fool you. She has a knack for getting to the truth, and catnip. Her main job is to talk to the pets of key members of Harold's Place. People often trust pets more than other people, and so they shall have a lot to tell. Her first assignment is to investigate Timmy. She'll get close to him and gain his trust them report back to us all his evil plans. Once the Timmy story has been published she'll move on and perhaps talk to Trallyus' Momma cat and find out all of Trallyus secrets. After that who knows, Lucy?

Message Board Admin (MBA) is one of Harold's other boards. It is running FusionBB, so if you want to try that out, click on the link. The board is for Admins and users of other FusionBB message boards. To either get help with setting up the board software or learn more about the inner workings of FusionBB.

There are currently talks about which software to use, UBB7 or FusionBB for Harold's Place. Harold has lifetime licenses for both, but if he chooses FusionBB, MBA will be scrapped so that license will cover Harold's Place instead. Even though the FusionBB software has full post tracking and Joseph has been working on setting up rss feeds, we feel MBA should not be lost in the process. Thus we nominate UBB7 as the new board software, yet it is all up to Harold and we shall support whatever he decides.

Official Link
Harold's Place has officially linked to the Harold Star. Does that make us the official paper of Harold's or just the messed up one? That we do not know, yet we shall investigate this further. Ann was the first that suggested there be a link, to her we owe our gratitude and to Harold for the link. From us here at the Harold Star to the both of you, thanks.

Birthdays
There are two birthdays this week. So be sure to wish them a very happy birthday.

MelizzaJewell on June 25th will be 37.
Todd on June 26th will be 29.

Also, TOR's vacation begins on the 26th. So wish him luck with that, wherever he may be going..

Dizzy & Trallyus Talk

Kristopher: This time I asked them both the same questions to see how they each respond. Okay, to start off. Good Day Dizzy, Trallyus. How are you doing?

Dizzy: Hello Kris, I’m ok thanks. Actually I’m a bit annoyed as I arranged a day off so I would have a 5 day weekend and I get sick. I’ve lost my voice! The only positive is that the weather is miserable and sleeping on the couch with two cats is very cozy.

Trallyus: I am doing great. I got a new game today as well as a caller id box and I finally got to watch almost all of my night stalker dvds. The second season of the 4400 is still unwrapped I think as well.

As you know I am not one to watch a dvd set all at once as I got the firefly series a few Christmases back and I think it took me a year or two to watch the entire set

I still have yet to go through season 2 and 3 of the greatest american hero, as well as the complete seasons of the flash, earth 2, odyssey 5, the old night stalker collection, and the 2nd part of Revelations as well.

I won’t mention having to finish Doctor Who: The Beginning DVD set as well

Kristopher: Does Glisten and Oi come down to male or female? To like the Oi need you be a woman and to like Glisten you have to be a man?

Trallyus: You pretty much said it except you forgot to mention the new faction in town, mainly the sinkers Those are the folks that join 2dogs under the sink and have a good time battling the Oiness

The glisten has been around since the old leoville days but has not been popular lately since the leader does not talk about it much lately

I assume he relies on his minions to do that but I think they are slacking off in the recruiting arena

As for the Oi, we sinkers like to let them think they are in charge so they will be lazy and let down their guard then we can swoop in and take them over

Dizzy: Oi is something that women relate to more than Glisten as it feels natural for most but there are certainly women capable of giving the Glisten leader a run for his money. Conversely there are men who see the appeal of the Oi philosophies. It’s all about choice. Oi originates from an Australian sense of self that didn’t discriminate on the basis of gender. Sadly we are losing that ideal as a nation.

Kristopher: If you had all the money in the world what would you do?

Trallyus: I would probably get a super fast computer that was top of the line to replace my old 800 mhz machine.

Also I would get a new top of the line ipod to replace the ipod mini I have now.

And last but not least, I would pay off alot of our immediate familys bills as well as some other things

Dizzy: I would have my dream home built while I was traveling the world for 6 months, then I would pay to fly plane loads of food and medical supplies to the most needy areas in the world and try to make sure everyone had enough of everything they needed. Finally I would use my wealth to lobby politicians to do the right thing for a change.

Kristopher: Finish this sentence; It puts the lotion...

Dizzy: It puts the lotion....where ever it feels like.
That sentence is too dependant on the context.

Trallyus: It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.

I think I first heard this saying from you, then I googled it and then I googled it and found The Greenskeepers video and finally knew where you got that phrase from

Of course you got it from the movie, and were surprised they had a video out based on that saying which you saw and liked.

Kristopher: With all this talk about Oi, Glisten, lotion, money and how you were doing I forgot the most important question of all. Shall I ask it now? Of course I shall. I wouldn't want to play this out for as long as possible.. I'm not that kind of person. Nope, not I. Well here goes. Okay then. Don't you think I'm too sexy for my tutu?

I shall regard your silence as an affirmative yes. I know, the whole tutu thing is a little much to talk about right now. It is just so great.. Perhaps we can touch upon my tutu next time. Until then, I shall thank you again for helping with the paper. Thanks, why yes I am feverish. One person will get that, and that is one person too many.

System Restore & Recycle Bin
One of the first things I do with new Windows XP installation or on a computer I am tuning up is to change the default settings of Recycle Bin and System Restore, both of which are set at defaults to consume a great deal of your hard drive space. The default for Recycle Bin is 10 percent. Ten percent of a 200 gigabyte hard drive is 20 gigs. Way too much! Here’s how to change it: right click on Recycle Bin > Properties > right click and hold on the slider and move/drag it to the left to something reasonable like 2 percent. Notice if you have more than one hard drive, you should select “Use one setting for all drives” or configure each separately.

System Restore default is 12 percent, I believe. You can do the math, right? Right click on My Computer > Prties > System Restore > Settings > right click and hold on the slider and move it to the left to around 1000 MBs. That should be enough for about a month of System Restores--who would need or want to go back further than that?

The default settings made sense back when hard drives where 10 or 20 gigabytes, but not today when they are regularly over 100 gigs and then some.

Make Text Bigger

For the older users among us. Try all of the following to make reading easier on the eyes.

Right click desktop/properties/settings/advanced/DPI settings to Large Size 120dpi./ok/ok/reboot.
Right click desktop/properties/Appearance/Font size/Large/ok
Internet Explorer/tools/internet options/accessability/ignore font sizes specified on web pages
Internet Explorer/view/Text Size/Smallest

Or if you don't want to go into the settings of windows or permantly change the size of the text in your operating system, and just your browser. If you have a scroll Mouse, hold down the Control key on your keyboard and roll the mouse wheel. This will change the size of the print, smaller or larger, depending on which way you turn the wheel. The size of the print will revert the next time you start your browser. Great for those of us with declining eyesight and just want to make one page's text a little bigger.

To change the settings of the font size in Internet Explorer or Firefox do this:

Firefox; Tools/Options/Content
Go to the default font section, click on the down arrow beside size to choose a vast array of sizes going all the way up to 72.

Internet Explorer: View/Text Size/
Choose from Largest to Smallest and several in-between.

Mover & Shaker

Looks like the only person who made triple diggits this week was Trallyus. With a resounding 147 posts he takes the lead. Runner up Spraytech was 48 posts behind with 99. Trallyus really must have wanted it this week. Can only wonder if he can keep up this pace for next week as well.

"happy birthday, Gweeptish"
What is your most favorite science fiction movie of all time, and why?
Difficult one, cause a lot of science fiction holds a place dear to my heart, especially Star Trek. My *favourite* one, though, the one I could probably watch once a day and never get tired of it, is probably Aliens. There usually aren't a lot of sequels that are better than the originals, except for maybe Star Trek II (...and IV...First Contact...and Nemesis), Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and this movie. It has everything that the original did, and more. The characters are a piece of work - especially Bishop (I automatically fell in love with Bishop when I first saw it...nerdy, I know) and the acting is really good, and there's tons and tons of aliens and really stupid Marines...what more can you ask for? But the movie's just so well done, and yet no one seems to give it a lot credit - that's usually done for Alien. But the movie is, to me, at least, 10 times better than Alien. Another movie name I should just throw out there is Tron. Because Tron is Tron.
About Me

Me. What can I say about me? I don't know. I'm Canadian. In high school. I wear glasses. Have 2 siblings, both older. What else do people really want to know? I play the piano, and I really enjoy it. Favourite composers are Rachmaninoff and Chopin, though Beethoven isn't bad. I also play the French Horn in my school band and usually end up writing things during band practice, cause I'm the only French Horn in it. Heh. So, I enjoy writing things, stories or fanfictions or whatever, because things just kind of flow to me. I also really enjoy reading anything, so long as its good - my dog usually curls up on my lap when I read. It's kinda cute, actually. I watch an unearthly amount of Star Trek, House, MD and 24. I excelled in my CISCO computer networking course last semester - taking the final part next year so I can get my CISCO certification and get a good job while I go to university...and yeah. I'm boring, can you tell?
